Being sleep deficient is almost a given in today’s world. Life seems to get busier and busier, and sleep often plays second fiddle to “getting things done.” It’s rare that people’s sleep patterns are guided by what they actually need on a daily basis.
If 5 or 6 hours were truly enough, we could ignore this habit. But the reality is, no matter how much you can get used to insufficient sleep, it takes a toll on your body and mind. Without a full night’s sleep, you’re likely suffering in several areas of health and well being.
By taking on sleep, not to perfect it, but to improve it, you can begin to chip away at the small area around it. And over time, improving little by little, you will start to gain a sense of how important sleep really is. It affects not just your physical state, but your mood and thoughts as well.
As one of the 7 daily habits, you will choose an amount of sleep that represents an improvement over what you’re currently getting. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Heck, it doesn’t even have to be great. But a small stretch is the start of a whole new way of living.
There is no magic pill for health and well being, but if there was it might likely be sleep. You can’t do without it and it has a global impact on your system. And small, incremental adjustments to your habits my be enough to go from good to great.
