We all tend to focus on the doing — on being bigger, better, stronger, faster and getting more. But when I, a former Marine, interviewed a retired SEAL commander and founder of SEALFIT, we didn’t talk about any of that.
“We are pretty good at doing things,” said Mark Divine, “but we are shitty at the non-doing part. We need to spend time cultivating the non-doing things, which include self-awareness, journaling, and contemplating. And this has a profound effect over time.”
“Reflection, meditation, silence … these [are the] different things warrior and spiritual practices allow us,” said Mark Divine, “and we have found that this type of training is equally if not more valuable than doing more.”
Mark Divine, author of Unbeatable Mind, is living proof that meditation and self-reflection work. When Mark was just 25, he was a Wall Street CPA who was on the path to running a business. He walked away and joined the SEALs because he knew it was his true life purpose.
How did he know?
Meditation.
Listen to the interview, and consider trying meditation in your own life. You know, maybe for ten minutes a day for a week to start.
